"Some days I amaze myself. Others, I put my keys in the fridge!'
Your alarm goes off at 6am.
"How many times can I hit snooze before i'm late" I hear you ask yourself.
We've all been there, waking up in the morning, feeling totally oblivious to the outside world and our surroundings and just wishing for another hour in bed. More so in these colder, winter months as 6am could easily pass as midnight as you look out of the window.
There's no set formula for this to stop happening, but here's how we think you can help yourself.
1 - Tell Your Brain It Needs To Get Up
As silly as this sounds, it really works. If you know you've not got to be anywhere at a certain time, your brain will convince you that you've got nothing to do & will stay relaxed as long as possible. If you know you have to be somewhere for a certain time, getting up doesn't seem to be as hard. Think about those early morning flights you need to catch for your holiday - you know you need to be at the airport, so you're up in the blink of an eye!
2- Stretches / Exercise
Now, this isn't for everyone but exercise first thing in the morning really gets the blood pumping...literally. A sure fire way to get your circulation to a great level, release the endorphins that help you feel good and gets your brain and body engaged from the get go. We're not talking a marathon here, a light jog, a couple of press ups or simply stretching out your key muscles is all that's required.
3 - Straight In The Shower
You don't want to run your day exuding an ode of sweat, do you. A shower not only (obviously!) acts very functionally, but it helps you feel at your best for the day ahead. A good face scrub and a sing song in the morning never hurt anyone and only good vibes will follow there after. Apply skin products and keep your skin alive and well, a couple of sprays of your favourite aftershave and we're winning.
3 - Water, Water, Water, Coffee
A good thing to build into your routine in the morning is hydration. Drink plenty of water when you arise. It brings your brain to good functionality and starts to gradually perk you up. A strong coffee is next on the agenda to get you over the line and to bearable capacity. Sometimes you just can't beat a quality double espresso to hit the spot. Short, quick and packs a punch!
4 - Breakfast - The Most Important Meal Of The Day.
It's true what they say, it really is. A good breakfast will set you off for a great day. Think about this one, your food can really set the tone of your behaviour and your energy levels throughout the next 24 hours. Oats, it's all about the Oats. The perfect breakfast bowl to get you going and super simple to make. Throw in some blueberries or raspberries to waken up your taste buds too. Good carbs, that won't leave you feeling lethargic, bloated or hungry for something more.
5 - Dress To Impress
Finally, and probably most importantly. Dress as if you're in charge of your day, not as if it's in charge of you. We have a saying here that
'When you look good, you feel good & when you feel good, you'll do good'
and its 100% true. You need to start the day feeling confident, strong and on top of your game and undoubtedly, dressing well will make you do that. Anything casual will keep your mind in a relaxed state, but anything with a bit of edge will get your juices flowing and that brain of yours, firing. Invest in yourself, prepare the night before and save yourself the headache in the morning.
