Making The Most Of Wimbledon Whites

Making The Most Of Wimbledon Whites

We all know an all black outfit is the most flattering and most versatile outfit to pull off. Grab a pair of black jeans and a black t-shirt and that's the base of your outfit pretty much sorted. However, black isn't exactly a summer weather friendly colour and after a couple of hours you'll end up looking more of a sweaty mess than Johnny Cash.

So we're taking a trip to the opposite end of the spectrum and we're going to talk all things white. In homage to the Wimbledon Championships starting, we're going to tell you how you can make the most of your white shirt this summer and our tips for pulling off an all white look. But don't worry gents, you don't have to be the next Andy Murray to rock these 'tennis whites'.

How To Make The Most Of Your White Shirt For Summer.

White shirts are great because they never go out of style and can be worn all year. But the best part of them? They can be worn for any occasion. So if you're one of those people who shys away from shirts outside of work or formal events, then this summer is definitely the time to rethink your white shirt.

For the summer, light weight is best, so think linen or cotton. Both can be paired perfectly with chino shorts or trousers in pretty much any colour. Go for a classic look with navy shorts or venture onto the bold side with patterns. Don't over complicate things though. Sticking to one additional colour and it's shade variations is best.

To complete your more casual look, roll up the sleeves and leave your top button undone. Et voila! Ultimate casual summer go to look complete.

Now you'll be wearing your white shirt more and more in the coming months, it's important to know how to look after them. Always pay close attention to the cuffs and under arms for any discolouration and should you encounter any stains, get some Vanish on that! When it comes to washing, always check the care label and never EVER wash whites with non-whites.

Rules For Wearing All White.

This idea generally scares the majority of people but if you want to take your white shirt to the next level, this is for you. The idea may sound preposterous at first but if done properly an all white outfit can look oh so debonair. But for the sake of yourself and everyone else, stick to chinos or jeans and stay away from translucent linen trousers!

Now, time for me to blow your mind... there are millions of different colour variations of white! From bright white to ivory to oatmeal, mixing shades can be a great way to add depth and dimension to your outfit without breaking your all white vibe.

Another way to add dimension is to add a splash of colour contrast in the form of a logo or subtle accessory. Take our 'Rupert' shirt, for example, with maroon contrast stitching on both the third button hole and our signature Penny Farthing logo.

Choose your accessories wisely. Stick to softer, darker colours like brown or blue for your belts and bags.

As for shoes - it's not as easy to find a pair for white trousers as it is for your traditional denim or black. Similarly to accessories, stick to a lighter colour, so think tan loafers or navy boat shoes. If you do fancy being a bit bold, contrast your trousers with black shoes and a black tee but keep it SUPER simple.

Destination is also key. Unless you're off to Wimbledon, wearing all white in the middle of the city doesn't seem quite right (plus can you imagine the dirt?!). More rural and coast locations lend themselves way better to the look.

And last but not least, have the confidence to rock it! All white is a bold statement so wear it with gentlemanly confidence and charm and you can't go wrong.
